HOMETOWN GOALKEEPER JAMES RETURNS TO CANBERRA

Canberra United are delighted to announce the return to the club of highly-rated goalkeeper Sally James with the Canberra-born local returning to her hometown following stints at Melbourne City and Perth Glory.

The 20-year-old, who was part of the Australia squad at the 2022 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Costa Rica, began her senior career with the greens before joining Melbourne City in 2021 and adding Perth Glory to her roster of clubs two years later.

“Sally is a bright young goalkeeper who has all the attributes you want in a top-class custodian, and we are excited to be able to bring her home for the new A-League season,” Antoni Jagarinec, Head Coach, commented.

“Canberra has been blessed with some great goalkeepers down the years and we are pleased that Sally is back in her hometown and ready to knuckle down and help us be successful during the forthcoming campaign.”

James made her United bow on 30 December 2020 in a 4-3 victory over Adelaide United and went on to play in a victory against Melbourne City and a draw with Brisbane Roar remaining undefeated during her spell with the club.

The Majura FC junior, who also enjoyed a spell with Illawarra Stingrays upon moving to Sydney to be part of the Future Matildas, is keen to be back in her home city.

“I am thrilled to be back in Canberra and playing for United once more,” James said of her return to the club. “As my hometown team, they hold a special place in my heart and, after experiencing football away from home, I am delighted to be back.

“I can’t wait to pull on the United jersey once more and take to the field in front of the best fans in the league. It will be an emotional moment, and I am eager to go!”

James has committed to Canberra United for the 2024/25 season, and you can too! Packages for season memberships are available now on our club website at www.canberraunited.com.au.
