Canberra United are delighted to announce that local product Jaya Bowman has been added to the squad for the new Ninja A-League season following a tremendous season in the local National Premier League for Champions Canberra Olympic.
Bowman was a standout in the Olympic squad that took home the Charity Shield, League Championship crown, and Grand Final, her season culminating in a share of the NPLW Player of the Year award, tied with teammate Madelyn Whittall, at the recent Capital Football Awards Night.
“Following a successful trial period with the club, we are pleased to be able to add Jaya to the squad for the upcoming Ninja A-League season,” United Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec said.
“I have seen Jaya play a lot during the local NPL competition, and she has great composure on the ball, can pick a pass in right situations, and has the ability to find space in constricted areas.
“Backing this up with a decent shot off either foot, with the ability to play in several positions across the park, then I am certain we have a very good acquisition.”
Bowman, who made 47 appearances in the United Academy and scored six goals, played in central midfield for Olympic in their outstanding 2024 NPL season, sometimes reverting to central defence when the need required for her team, being equally comfortable in either position, and standing out in the big matches throughout the campaign.
“I am so happy to have been given the opportunity to join the team on a scholarship agreement for the new season,” Bowman commented of her signing for her hometown team.
“As a member of the Canberra United Academy, I have a real connection to the club, from when I was growing up, and have many memories of watching the club at venues around Canberra.
“I am excited by what is in front of me, and I am looking forward to learning off a fantastic coaching group, and some highly experienced players.”
