Midfielder Sally Shipard was named Canberra United Player of the Year at the club’s annual awards presentation held at Regatta Point, Canberra, on Sunday 13th February. Caitlin Cooper was named Player’s Player of the Year with Emily Van Egmond taking the Rising Star award.
Midfielder Sally Shipard was named Canberra United Player of the Year at the club-s annual awards presentation held at Regatta Point, Canberra, on Sunday 13th February. Caitlin Cooper was named Player-s Player of the Year with Emily Van Egmond taking the Rising Star award.
Shipard was announced as the third recipient of the Canberra United Player of the Year of the award, following in the footsteps of Ellie Brush and Ellyse Perry, after a commanding series of displays at the heart of the Canberra United engine room throughout Season Three of the Westfield W-League. In her acceptance speech Shipard thanked the contribution of her team mates and stressed how much she enjoyed her football during season 2010/11.
Caitlin Cooper edged home in the Canberra United Player-s Player of the Year voting to claim the trophy which is voted on a 3-2-1 point-s basis by each squad member at the conclusion of the season. Cooper, who joined the club from Central Coast Mariners at the start of this season, formed a solid defensive partnership with Brush and was in excellent form throughout the year.
Young tyro Emily Van Egmond was named as the club-s Rising Star. This award recognizes a player under the age of 20 who excelled in the Westfield W-League during 2010/11. Van Egmond played in all bar one of United-s fixtures, created plenty of goals for others and netted one herself in the 4-1 home win over Newcastle Jets.
In other awards Sally Shipard made it a double by winning the 2XX Supporters Player of the Year trophy, whilst Ellyse Perry was awarded The Leprechauns Supporters Trophy.
