Canberra United can today announce that Liana Danaskos has signed on for Season 10 of the Westfield W-League.
The 2017/18 season will be Danaskos’ second season in the W-League having played last year with the Newcastle Jets, and the midfielder has played the last few seasons under United Head Coach Heather Garriock at Sydney University.
The 22 year-old was Captain in Season 2017 and Garriock said that she will be a big boost to the team.
“Her positivity, worth ethic and leadership is something that is hard to coach and she demands the best from herself,” Garriock said.
“Liana will bring a great amount of consistency and athleticism to the side.
“She has grown a lot already from last season so she is only going to strengthen our squad and it will force us to make decisions on starting 11 positions; competition is healthy.”
Danaskos was an impact player for the Jets early in the fold in Season Nine, but forged a spot for herself as the season went on and earned four starts in the last part of the season and is looking forward to create a spot in Canberra.
“I’m hoping to cement a starting position and always be in the squad,” she said.
“I think I’m in a really good environment to better my own performance and push for that starting position.”
Danaskos will already have a strong connection with the coach from three years at Sydney Uni, as well as with a number of Sydney Uni teammatesand Danaskos believes it will be important for her this season.
“She [Heather] is a really good coach and she pushes me.”
“She knows me as a person and a player, so it is good to come into a familiar environment with her and she is going to push not only myself but everybody else.
With pre-season already a week in at the AIS, the squad is preparing well for Westfield W-League Season 10 and all eyes are on the opening round clash with Melbourne Victory on October 28th.
