UNITED TO CELEBRATE ‘FOREVER GREEN – HERITAGE ROUND’

Forever Green – Heritage Round will take place with the Round 15 fixture against Central Coast Mariners at McKellar Park. This is a special occasion that celebrates the rich history and heritage of the team and the impact it has made on women’s football in Australia, a day to honour the past and look forward to the future.

Taking place on Saturday 8th of February 2025 at McKellar Park, the Heritage Round will not only showcase the current talent of Canberra United but will also honour the club’s incredible journey over the years. The day is a special tribute to the club’s founders, players, and supporters who have contributed to its legacy, and will continue to contribute to its future.

The matchday will see former Canberra United players in attendance at McKellar Park, and for the first time ever the club’s W-League Champions trophy will be on display in a special photo booth for engagement with fans. On the day, four legends of Canberra women’s football will be honoured with induction into Capital Football’s Hall of Fame for their contributions to our great game.

In addition to the planned matchday events, the weeks leading into the big day will see fans have the opportunity to reflect on their favourite moments of the club’s 17 years, with a ‘CUFC Fan’s All-time XI’, a Retro Jersey design competition, and the announcement and celebration of the top five moments in the team’s history (which will be posted across the club’s social media channels).

The game itself will be a key clash against one of the league’s fellow finals aspirants, Central Coast Mariners, making for an exciting day of football as Canberra United’s current squad continues to strive for an A-League women’s finals berth.

“We’re proud of our club’s heritage and the impact we’ve had on the growth of women’s football in Australia,” said Capital Football and Canberra United CEO Samantha Farrow. “This round is a great way to share that history with our loyal supporters and inspire the next generation of players and fans.

She added: “Whilst the Club’s future is uncertain, Heritage round is about recognising the incredible women who have helped shape the game and the community that continues to support them. We hope that by celebrating the history of Canberra United, we can inspire the next generation of footballers to dream big, work hard, and become the next stars of the A-League, and fans of Canberra United.”
