Teenage goalkeeper Georgia Ritchie has extended her stay at Canberra United by inking a new deal at the club that will take in the 2024/25 A-League season, her second year with the club.
The promising young custodian was included in the Canberra squad for Season 16 of the competition and, despite not taking to the field in a competitive match, was included as an unused substitute in five fixtures during the course of the campaign.
Touted as one of the best goalkeepers to emerge in the ACT and surrounding region for a number of years, the former national Youth Championship Goalkeeper of the Tournament is a welcome addition to the ranks.
“Georgia showed last season that she was an excellent addition to the Canberra United squad and was ready and able to step up when required as a fully committed back-up to our other, more experienced goalkeepers,” Canberra United Head Coach, Antoni Jagarinec, commented.
“As with all of our young talent that are part of the Canberra squad, Georgia has an exceptional future ahead of her in the game, and we are delighted that she has committed to playing for us in 2024/25.”
Ritchie progressed through the ranks at the Canberra United Academy before being promoted into the first-grade squad where she has quickly become a well-known face amongst the United supporters.
“I am grateful to be able to continue my football career with my hometown club and am very happy to have signed a new deal for the forthcoming A-League season,” Ritchie commented.
“I learned a lot last year under our coaching staff and was delighted to get the opportunity to be part of our matchday squad for five matches in the competition, gaining a heap of experience in the process.
“I am looking forward to progressing my career and hopefully making my debut in the new season. It’s truly special to be part of this club, especially with the support of our loyal fans.”
