FYL: United look to bounce back in Newcastle

The Canberra United Foxtel Youth League squad will look to bounce back from a big defeat in Round One, when they travel to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

The 8-0 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers in the opening round was a tough initiation to the competition, before a bye last weekend gave the side some more time off to work together.

This weekend they will face a Jets outfit who have picked up 1-1 draws in both of their opening matches, also looking for their first win of the season.

Head Coach Ryan Grogan said that the side have looked to work on their weaknesses from Round one, while spending time looking at Sunday’s opponents in depth.

“We’ve worked on our defensive shape a fair bit,” Groga said.

“So one of our weaknesses against Western Sydney was how we pressed, and we have done a bit of work on how we will press and how we will put Newcastle under pressure.”

“W have also put in a fair bit of work on our attacking shape, how we think we can hurt Newcastle, so plenty of work preparing for them this weekend.”

“We’ve had a look at their strengths and weaknesses, and hopefully this weekend we can execute a game plan and get a result.”

Grogan also admitted that while the experience was a big jump for the side in Round one, the team had  learnt and were looking to move forward.

“As I’ve said before, the match was a huge learning curve for them,” he said.

“But they have put it behind them and they’re excited to get going this weekend.”
