Key Bits |

Melbourne Victory will be looking to retain momentum heading into finals after they claimed the 2018/19 Westfield W-League Premiership with a win over Perth on Friday night at Dorrien Gardens.

The Victory will be presented with the trophy at the conclusion of tonight’s match and no doubt will want to receive it after a win rather than a loss or draw.

It remains to be seen what team Jeff Hopkins will send out though, as he surely keeps one eye on the home semi-final against Perth Glory on Sunday afternoon.

United’s win against Adelaide in round 11 ensured that their undefeated streak at home remained intact this season, with five games seeing three wins and two draws at McKellar Park so far.

This rivalry has been historically tight with 19 games between the two sides resulting in nine United wins, three draws and seven wins for the Victory.

United will have an almost entirely full-strength side, likely to only miss Nikola Orgill who has succumbed to a foot injury that she played through at Suncorp Stadium in round 13.

The teams have not met in a full match since Round One last season, and the last time Victory were in Canberra they were handed a 5-1 thrashing in the final round of the 2016/17 season as United secured the Premiership.

The Victory have only ever won twice in Canberra in a total of nine meetings, with United winning six and the two teams unable to be separated on one occasion.

From the Coach |

Taking on the Premiers…

“It’s important to finish the season on a high, not only for us but for the fans as well. Victory are premiers, credit to them but there’d be no better way to finish this season than knocking off the Premiers in front of our fans.

“I think the season has been so tight, you can see that over the last couple of weekends where anyone can beat anyone. I have full confidence that we are a quality team, we’ll show that tomorrow night and that we can beat the Victory.

On Victory & Jeff Hopkins…

“Presenting them the plate is a display of hard work for them.

“The last three years Jeff Hopkins has come in to the job, rebuilt the team and this year they’ve been consistently very good. That’s a credit to him and the players he’s recruited, they have been outstanding and really deserve the Premiers Plate.”
