Canberra United would like to congratulate referee Kate Jacewicz on being named the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Referee of the Year (Women) at the gala AFF Awards held in Hanoi, Vietnam on Friday night.

Jacewicz enjoyed a fantastic 2019, which began with her taking charge of her ninth Westfield W-League Grand Final when she officiated the decider between Sydney FC and Perth Glory.

The seven times Westfield W-League Referee of the Year was also one of 75 match officials appointed to officiate at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

Most recently in August, Jacewicz made history when she became the first female referee to be appointed to the Hyundai A-League Referees Panel, which allows her to officiate both Westfield W-League and Hyundai A-League matches.

FFA Chairman and chair of the FFA Referees Committee Chris Nikou says the award reflects the outstanding level of expertise and professionalism that Kate Jacewicz prides herself on.

“Kate is one of the world’s finest referees and thoroughly deserves this award,” Mr. Nikou said.

“Her work on the pitch is a reminder to us all just how vital referees are to the lifeblood and well-being of our game.”
