Canberra United has welcomed their Westfield Matilda Karly Roestbakken home as the club aims for a fifth-place finish on the Westfield W-Leauge ladder.
Roestbakken helped Australia advance to the final stage of their road to the Tokyo Olympic Games, playing full matches against Chinese Taipei and Thailand, which included her first International assist.
United coach Heather Garriock lauded Roestbakken’s performances and said her return to Canberra is a welcome boost for the club.
“How excited would the Canberra community to have one of our very own at the Olympic Games,” Garriock said. “Karly was outstanding during the qualifiers, especially in the second game.
“She has improved from the beginning of my time three years ago to where she is now. Technically, her tactical awareness is phenomenal so she will only grow into a much better player.
“The club is really proud of her. As a community we are really proud. We actually haven’t produced from Canberra someone who has come through our pathway for many, many years. I think the last person was Caitlin Munoz.
“So it is great to see Rosty in the national team.”
Former Matilda stiker Leena Khamis also praised the influence the young co-captain has on the club.
“She is a great young player coming through and she has a bright future ahead of her and you can see that in Westfield W-League level and International level,” Khamis said. “Many good things to come for Karly.
“She is a great character, a great person to have in the team and she always has a big smile on her face.
“We are glad to have her back for this weekend’s match.”
