Canberra United are pleased to announce the signing of forward Maja Markovski as the club bolsters its attacking ranks ahead of the new 2024/25 Ninja A-League campaign which will commence on 2 November.
The two-time Ninja A-League winner, Markovski was part of the squad that won successive crowns with Melbourne Victory in 2020/21 and 2021/22, makes the move to United off the back of a successful season with FC Bulleen Lions in the Victorian NPLW as her team finished as League Champions in first place.
Markovski netted twenty goals for the club on her way to snatching the Golden Boot award for the division and was also awarded the NPL Women’s Gold Medal for Player of the Year as well as scooping the Media Player of the Year Award.
“Maja comes to the club having been very successful in the top-tier Victorian NPL where she was amongst the goals and was a very creative influence for FC Bulleen Lions,” Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec said.
“Maja also has extensive A-League experience having shown her quality with Melbourne Victory. As with most of the signings we were looking at for this season, Maja fits the profile of being a young player who has played plenty of A-League matches and has the quality to succeed at this level.”
Markovski made her A-League bow in late January 2021 as a substitute in an away match against Brisbane Roar, going on to appear a further five times that year including against Canberra United at home.
The following season the tall forward netted a maiden A-League goal in the derby against Melbourne City on Boxing Day 2021, adding another in her first start in the competition against Western Sydney Wanderers a fortnight later.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to come to Canberra and play for United,” Markovski said. “The club has a good reputation amongst players throughout the A-League, particularly the home ground and the supporter base.
“I am looking forward to joining up with my new teammates and getting the opportunity to train with them and to enhance my game under Antoni (Jagarinec) and his coaching staff. I can’t wait to get started.”
