PREVIEW: WANDERERS TEST FOR UNITED AHEAD OF FINALS

Canberra United travel up the Hume Highway to take on Western Sydney Wanderers in the final regular season match of the 2024/25 campaign, with a spot in the finals already secured.

Having initially been scheduled for a 4:00pm kick-off on Sunday 20 April, the match was moved to Saturday 19 April with a 4:50pm kick-off, to form part of a double header with the A-League Men’s.

A one-nil for United over Wellington Phoenix in Round 22, and a four-all draw between Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney, confirmed a spot in the post-season for the first time since the 2020/21 season.

It’s a good test for Antoni Jagarinec’s side ahead of the finals, with fourth place and a potential home match in the elimination final still up for grabs, as the side look to keep their good run of form going.

Last time United took on the Wanderers this season was back in Round 12, ending in a one-nil win for the team in green, with an own-goal in the 45th minute the difference.

Wanderers will be without starting goalkeeper Shamiran Khamis, after the shot-stopper was shown a straight red card, with backup ‘keeper Aimee Hall brought on.

This will be the 19th time in total that United have taken on the Wanderers, with Canberra having 10 wins against the Red and Black.
