As the 2025/26 Ninja A-League season comes to a close, I want to acknowledge that today’s result is not what we had hoped for, and I know how much that hurts for everyone connected to this club.
There is uncertainty around what comes next, but this club’s importance to our community is undeniable.
What I couldn’t be more certain of, though, is how proud I am of this group. Our coaching staff, medical team, managers and, of course, our players who have shown incredible commitment, resilience and professionalism. They are a special group of people, and they have represented Canberra United with everything they have.
I want to sincerely thank the 3,290-strong crowd who showed up today. Your support sent a powerful message – that this club matters, that it belongs, and that it deserves to be here. Our partners have also played a critical role, and I thank them for their support – without it, none of this would have been possible.
I know many in our community are disappointed with the decision for Capital Football to step away from operating Canberra United. This decision has not been taken lightly. Capital Football’s role is to lead and grow the game across Canberra and the region – from grassroots participation and local competitions to inclusive programs that ensure football is accessible to all, including all-abilities and powerchair football.
Since Canberra United’s inception, Capital Football has proudly operated the club and has sustained that role longer than any other member federation. However, the professional landscape of the league has evolved significantly – with a longer season, increased demands and higher standards across all areas of the game. It is important that Canberra United’s future is led by those whose sole focus is the success and sustainability of the club.
Please know that we are working behind the scenes and remain in close and regular contact with the APL as they progress current discussions with multiple parties regarding the potential sale of the Canberra United licence and a sustainable long-term future for the club.
This club means too much to too many people. We have been working tirelessly towards its future, and we will continue to keep our community informed as soon as we are able to share more.
No further updates will be provided at this time.
