WELCOME BACK: FOOTBALL FERN LIZ ANTON RE-SIGNS WITH CANBERRA UNITED

Canberra United can confirm the re-signing of Liz Anton for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season, keeping a much-loved and thoroughly reliable defender at McKellar Park.

The Auckland-born centre-back returned to Canberra United in November 2025 following a stint with Norwegian Toppserien club Kolbotn, making 18 appearances across the 2025/26 season. It continued a strong association with the club dating back to her original 2024/25 signing from Perth Glory, when she was named Canberra United’s Player of the Year after captaining the side on five occasions. Known for her composure, no-nonsense defending and the respect she commands in the dressing room, Anton has made 37 A-League Women appearances for United across her two stints at the club.

A genuine Football Ferns mainstay, Anton has earned 30 caps for New Zealand since making her senior international debut in 2017, and was part of New Zealand’s squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on home soil. She remains a part of the group as New Zealand build towards the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil – international pedigree that continues to lift the standard around her at club level.

With Anton locked in for another season, Canberra United retain a defender fans have taken to heart and opponents find next to impossible to break down.

Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec said:

“Liz is exactly what you want marshalling your backline – she’s tough, she’s smart, and she brings genuine international experience that rubs off on everyone around her. We’re so happy to have this powerhouse with us in the backline again for another season.”

Canberra United’s 2026/27 Ninja A-League Women season begins away at Central Coast Mariners on 24 October, before the club’s first home match against Western Sydney Wanderers at McKellar Park on 1 November in Matchweek 3.
