Brush wary of Sydney twin threat

Canberra United co-captain Ellie Brush is prepared for a busy afternoon this weekend as United travels to Seymour Shaw to face Sydney FC and their prolific attacking duo of Leena Khamis and Kyah Simon.

The Sky Blues front pair has fifteen goals between them so far this season and United-s defensive lynchpin is aware of the threat that the twin terrors possess ahead of the top-of-the-table clash.

“Sydney FC obviously has some great players and they have been in some great form,” Brush said. “But we-ll be concentrating on getting nice and close to them and not giving them too much room, shutting them down and preventing goal chances which we have done well in the past against Sydney FC.”

United heads into the fixture on the back of a 4-1 win over the Newcastle Jets at Deakin Stadium a performance which was, arguably, the best of the season for Ray Junna-s team.

“It was an excellent result,” Brush confirmed. “It seems as if we-ve finally hit our straps again and put together a really good team performance with some very good goals and some great pieces of play. I-ve been impressed with our strikers and the amount of goals they have been getting. It-s taken the heat of me a bit!”

Whilst the central defender is renowned for her ability to score goals, particularly from set plays, it-s the work at the other end of the field that is her bread and butter and it-s something that she has been justifiably proud of during 2010/11.

“We were really pleased with the defensive end of it on the weekend as well, with Cian Maciejewski doing a superb job coming in for Ellyse (Perry). We-re working really well together as a back four and shutting down a lot of their scoring opportunities and doing our best to turn defence into attack as quickly as we can.”

Canberra United travels to Seymour Shaw on Saturday afternoon to face Sydney FC in Week 11 of the Westfield W-League with kick off at 5pm.
