Lucy Allan has been handed a second chance on the national scene after the 18 year-old signed for Canberra United as a replacement player to help bolster the depleted squad.

Injuries to a number of players has seen Allan sign a temporary contact with the Westfield W-League club and will help the team fight for a spot in the top four beginning this weekend against the Roar.

The ACTAS scholarship holder initially missed out on signing a 2009 contact but the Year 12 Radford College student sees this as a second opportunity to prove herself.

“It was disappointing to miss out on a senior contract, but now I do have a chance to prove myself and so hopefully I can take that chance,” Allan said.

“I’ve been training hard, so I hope it pays off.”

After making four appearances, twice off the bench, for Canberra United in the inaugural season, Allan has remained training with the team all season despite not contracted and will immediately take up a position in the playing squad.

The is midfielder not fussed where she plays on the park should head coach Ray Junna need some assistance.

“I’ve spoken with Ray about possible roles in defence or midfield, so I’ll try my hardest to help the team if I get a chance,” Allan said.

With summer on its way, Allan-s signing has come at an exciting period in her life as she prepares to take on both the Westfield W-League-s reigning champions, Brisbane Roar, and her final week of High School ahead of exams.

“It’s going to be hard over the next two weeks, but I-m looking forward to hopefully playing a role for Canberra United,” Allan said.

Allan will be contracted with Canberra United for the next four weeks.

Canberra United host the Brisbane Roar in a Westfield W-League Grand Final rematch at McKellar Park on Saturday, 7th November to be televised live on ABC 1 and ABC HD from 3:00pm.

Tickets for the much anticipated fixture are available through Capital Football or at the gate from 2:00pm.
