Canberra United “delighted” with season two draw

Canberra United will kick off its much anticipated Westfield W-League Season Two campaign with a Grand Final rematch against Brisbane Roar [formerly Queensland] with the fixture to be televised lived on ABC 1 on the October long weekend.

Canberra United will kick off its much anticipated Westfield W-League Season Two campaign with a Grand Final rematch against Brisbane Roar [formerly Queensland] with the fixture to be televised lived on ABC 1 on the October long weekend.

The local outfit, along with Brisbane, will have the honour of taking part in the opening fixture on Saturday, 3rd October at Ballymore Stadium with kick off at 3:00pm.

Canberra United-s outstanding performance in the inaugural year has been rewarded with three live televised fixtures on the ABC as well as two curtain raisers to Hyundai A-League fixtures – one in Canberra and one in Newcastle.

“We-re delighted with the exposure the Canberra United brand will receive this season through the three televised fixtures and the two curtain raisers to Hyundai A-League fixtures,” club CEO Heather Reid said.

“Without a Hyundai A-League franchise of our own, yet, we-re working really hard to develop the Canberra United brand across the country as we continue to strive towards our goal as Westfield W-League leaders both on and off the pitch.

The ten-round season will see half the fixtures played at home and the other half away, however, this year will see one of the away fixtures featuring the Central Coast Mariners in the national capital at Canberra Stadium.

The season highlight will be when the Mariners host Canberra United before the men-s game against Perth Glory at Canberra Stadium on Saturday, 31st October.

Local supporters will get their first opportunity to cheer on Canberra United in round two with the first home game against Sydney FC on Saturday, 10th October at McKellar Park at 5:00pm before the team heads to Perth to take on the Glory a week later.

Canberra United returns home for four weeks with fixtures against Melbourne, Mariners*, Brisbane (televised) and Perth from round four through to round seven.

Away games to Newcastle and Melbourne followed by a home game against Adelaide United at Deakin Stadium round out the season on Saturday, 5th December before the semi final and final before the year-s end.

“We couldn-t be happier with this season-s draw,” Reid said.

“The chance to play six fixtures in Canberra is very pleasing and will give our great supporters plenty of opportunities to cheer on our players as we aim to win this year-s Westfield W-League.”
