The Canberra side is aiming for 2000 spectators through the gates in the round-five fixture to make a statement to the rest of Australia that locals are genuinely interested in supporting football in the region.
Canberra United CEO, Heather Reid, encourages the community to rally behind the team especially this weekend.
“The first home game was overwhelming to see the support we received but that was only the first step,” Reid said.
“Rain, hail or shine, it-s a chance to show not only the rest of Australia but more importantly the Football Federation Australia (FFA) that the Canberra community is strong enough and passionate enough to support a football team in a national league.”
With free entry to Westfield W-League games, A-League4Canberra bid leader Ivan Slavich would like to see all 1000 Foundation Members take the opportunity to make a statement to the FFA following the ‘very positive- meeting with the head of Australian football.
Canberra United head coach believes that the crowd will act as a twelfth player as his side pushes for their second consecutive victory and first home win to further cement their spot in the top four while making a bold statement.
“It was evident in the last home game that the crowd really pushed us,” Hooker said of their first home game against Central Coast Mariners.
“Even though we didn-t get the result, the players worked their socks off right to the end and that was basically because of the crowd support.”
“I think the importance of us having a good home crowd is that we-ve been the leader so far this season in attendances and we need to show the rest of the country and the rest of the teams in this league that we-re serious about the Westfield W-League.”
“This weekend is another opportunity for us to show that we-ve got people who want to be in this league and want this league to succeed.”
Canberra United take on Adelaide United on Saturday at McKellar Park with kick off at 4:00pm.
