Despite the result not going our way, we were overwhelmed by the fantastic support the team received throughout the match in the way of flags, banners and voices.
“It was fantastic to see so many people come out and support the team from such a cross section of the community,” Canberra United CEO, Heather Reid said.
“While the result didn-t go in our favour, it was a fantastic day.”
The players commented after the game on how beneficial it was having the unbelievable support at home.
“They were a very vocal crowd and it was awesome having them behind us and it really helps,” vice captain Thea Slatyer said following the 2-1 loss to the Mariners.
“We didn-t give up until the final whistle; we could hear them all the way to the end which was motivating us.”
Canberra United encourages everyone to find as much green as possible ahead of their next home game in two weeks against Adelaide United on Saturday 22nd November at 4:00pm.
“Our next home game will be televised live on ABC 1 but rather staying at home and seeing it on telly, everyone here at Canberra United, including all the players, encourages spectators to come to McKellar Park for the game and show the rest of Australia that we-re biggest and best W-League club,” Reid said.
“Let-s turn McKellar Park into a sea of green and cheer your side on to victory – be seen in green and on national television on 22 November”.

I just wanted to pass on some positive feedback from the match [Canberra United v Central Coast Mariners] on Sunday at McKellar. I took a group of girls along and we all had a fabulous time, all for five dollars! My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away totally inspired and with strengthened commitment to her dream of playing at that level. She also really noticed the application of the skills she is practising in Academy, like heading the ball, using every inch of that field and fast footwork. And despite the loss and the reports the team wasn’t at its best, we had an awesome time and will definitely be going again.
I must admit despite many years of being a soccer mum I had never seen a game of football at this level and went particularly because they are local women players. Like others, I want my daughter to aim as high as she wants in football. I will certainly be encouraging others from our club to attend with their kids, it was such a buzz.
