Former Canberra United Academy striker Sasha Grove has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Canberra United which will see the exciting forward play in green through to the culmination of the 2023/24 season.
Grove. Who made her debut for the club during the 2021 season, really burst onto the scene last season where her performances for the club, exquisite technique, and a perception of the flow of a match, marked the young tyro not only as a potential star for the future, but one whose star is already shining brightly.
“I am excited to have signed a deal with Canberra United to play for the club for the next two seasons,” Grove commented. “Having played for the Academy at this club, it’s a dream come true to be able to play senior football in Liberty A-League.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my last two years with the club so far and am looking forward to getting started for the new season with our new coaching staff.
“Having been a fan myself before I was given the opportunity to play for Canberra United, I know exactly what this club means to the supporters, and it makes it even more thrilling for me when I get to run out and represent my hometown in the sport that I love.”
Grove was a prolific finisher at Academy level for United, banging in 21 goals in 47 matches for the club at that level, leaving her joint fourth on the list of the Academy’s all-time top scorers in the National Premier League competition.
“We are well aware of the qualities that Sasha brings to the Canberra United squad and I am looking forward to working with her to help her achieve her full potential,” Canberra United Head Coach Njegosh Popovich commented.
“Sasha had a very good season last year, showing the watching public what we have known for some time, that she has excellent technique and is a tireless worker when not in possession.
“No doubt Sasha has ambitions of playing regularly for the club and she has the ability to do so, and to take the next step up the representative ladder having been a part of the Young Matildas set-up.”
