ANTON WINS PLAYER OF THE YEAR AT UNITED AWARDS

Elizabeth Anton has been crowned as Canberra United Player of the Year following the club’s traditional end of season Awards Night held at the QT Hotel in the City.

Anton joined United at the commencement of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season, making her debut in green in Round 2 in her homeland of New Zealand in the 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix at Porirua Park.

The composed, elegant, defensive player went on to make nineteen appearances for the club this season, scoring the winning goal in the McKellar Park victory over Perth Glory in Round 14.

The prestigious Ellie Brush Players’ Player of the Year trophy was scooped up by goalkeeper Sally James, an ever-present in the squad, playing every minute bar ten, at the tail-end of the clash against Western Sydney Wanderers.

James was named Player of the Match in Round 2 against Wellington Phoenix, Round 17 against Melbourne City and in Round 22 the return match with the Phoenix. Our number one was later added to the Matildas squad as a train-on player for the matches against Korea Republic.

Canberra United’s Rising Star Award, presented to the best U20 Player at the club, went to the ultra-consistent defender Tegan Bertolissio.

The 2024/25 season saw Tegan make twenty-two appearances for United, taking her total club appearance record to 37 games. The industrious full-back was rewarded for her consistent performances by being called up for the Young Matildas, later being an addition as a train-on player for the senior Matildas matches with the Korea Republic.

Meanwhile, the recipient of this season’s Members’ Player of the Year accolade was the popular figure of Hayley Taylor-Young. Taylor-Young was named Player of the Match an incredible seven times during the season by the supporters, a remarkable feat.

She was joint winner in Round 3 against Adelaide United, in Round 8 against Newcastle Jets, Round 13 against Newcastle Jets again, Round 14 against Perth Glory, Round 18 against Melbourne Victory, Round 20 against Sydney FC, and the Elimination Final against Central Coast Mariners.

Finally, the Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Jeremy Herzog for his dedication and commitment to helping out at McKellar Park on matchdays.
