With a large number of players unavailable this weekend, Canberra United has dipped into its talented player pool to top up the squad ahead of its round two fixture against Queensland Roar on Saturday afternoon while also permanently signing two further players for the season.
ACTAS scholarship holders Snez Veljanovska and Jennifer Bisset joins the 18 player Canberra United squad for the remainder of the year while Ellie Raymond, Sophie Kochinos and Club Pink Premier League player Michaela Day line up as temporary replacement players.
Canberra United-s playing stocks are significantly depleted for round two with both Hayley Crawford and Caitlin Munoz side lined courtesy of knee injuries. Sasha McDonnell remains in the equation for this weekend depending on a late test of her ankle while Bronwyn Studman, Christine Walters and Ashleigh Sykes are in Kuala Lumpur with the Young Matildas.
“While it-s not ideal to have injuries and national team duties so early into the season, the two girls coming into the squad permanently and the three replacement players will fill the spots well,” said coach Robbie Hooker.
“The girls have all been training with the squad for a couple months now so they-re all up to speed with the tactics and are very familiar with the team.”
Canberra United now have the required squad of 20 permanent players for the inaugural year with the club still investigating the possibility of signing one or two internationals as a marquee or guest players for later in the season.
Canberra United line up against competition favourites Queensland Roar in Brisbane on Saturday at Perry Park which will be broadcast live on ABC 1 at 4:00pm.
