For the second year in a row, Canberra United is partnering with ActewAGL and The Salvation Army to spread Christmas cheer to families in need.

Canberra United launched its 2019 Christmas Drive at ActewAGL House, which will collect donations and gifts from the community to give to those in need this Christmas.

This Thursday’s (5 December) match, presented by ActewAGL, will see Canberra United take on Brisbane Roar, and a giving tree will be displayed at McKellar Park where supporters can donate footballs and other sporting equipment, t-shirts, books, puzzles, dolls, gift cards and much more.

Canberra United co-captain Nikola Orgill said it was important for the club to give back to the community.

“The Canberra community support us so well as a club, and it’s important that we give back to them whenever we can,” Orgill said.

“Ensuring that families in need can have an enjoyable Christmas and that their children have something under the tree on Christmas Day is a great way to do that.

“You can make a difference to someone else’s Christmas by bringing an unwrapped toy or gift and placing it under the tree at McKellar Park.”

Salvation Army spokesperson Major David McMurray reminded United fans to leave gifts unwrapped so parents and kids can choose a gift that they like.

“What you donate may be the only present someone receives this Christmas, so you could really put a smile on somebody’s face this festive season,” Major McMurray said.

“Any gift will bring joy and hope to those in need this Christmas.”
