Canberra United’s Foxtel Y-League side will head into round two looking for their first win of the season after a late loss in round one.

Dean Ugrinic’s side lead twice in the match with goals from Brodie Clarkson and Zac Barbatano, but were hauled back at the end of the game as the Mariners stole a victory and three points.

This time they take on the talented Western Sydney Wanderers, who defeated United twice on their way to claiming the title in the 2017/18 season.

The Wanderers were the first side United faced upon entering the league and recorded a big win in Sydney, but the return leg was far closer as United matched it with their opponent for long periods of the match before a loss of concentration in key moments cost the hosts dearly.

United looked strong and organised in their maiden outing last week, with the backline largely dealing well with the Mariners’ attacking raids and the constant threat of Peter Kekeris.

Youngster Zac Barbatano was excellent after coming on early and Bul Juach was a consistent thorn in the side of the Mariners defence, something Ugrinic will be hoping that he can continue this weekend.

The game kicks off at 6:30pm on Saturday night at Deakin Stadium.
