Canberra United can today announce the signing of Seattle Reign goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer for Season 10 of the Westfield W-League.

The 31st pick in the 2013 NWSL draft, Kopmeyer has been a part of the Reign ever since, making a name for herself as one of the United States’ best goalkeepers.

Kopmeyer previously played with Brisbane Roar in Season Eight of the W-League, but said she is excited to sign for the league’s most successful club.

“I’ve heard wonderful things about the club, its professionalism and the new coach in Heather,” she said.

“It is a perfect fit for this time in my career and I’m excited to help the team compete for the title.”

Kopmeyer made 12 appearances that season for the Roar and says that while that served as a developmental year, she is ready to be a difference-maker in Season 10.

“My first year in the league was instrumental to my development as a goalkeeper.

“Being able to return a few years older, I hope to make a large impact on the league.”

The stopper was new coach Heather Garriock’s first target after coming on board, and is looking forward to her being a big part of the Canberra United system.

“Hayley will be an important player for CU this season, she was my first recruit,” Garriock said.

“Having a goalkeeper of her calibre is important to the way we are going to play; her leadership, work ethic and experience will add a great amount of value to our defensive unit.

The 27-year old Michigan native was injured when the Roar came to McKellar Park that season, but says she can’t wait to play infront of the W-League’s best crowd.

“My first time in Canberra was the only week of the season I missed due to injury!,” she said.

“[But] I remember the fans and environment being fantastic and I look forward to taking the field with that support!”
