After making her national team debut at the FIFA Women’s World Cup earlier in the year, Canberra United star Karly Roestbakken will again don the green and gold of Australia.
The teenage sensation was today named in the 21-player squad for the Westfield Matildas November FIFA window, which includes two international friendly matches against Chile.
The friendlies will take place at the new Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta on Saturday 9th November, before the two nations meet again in Adelaide on Tuesday 12th November.
Roestbakken came on as an injury time substitute in Australia’s famous victory over Brazil at the World Cup in France, before being named in the starting XI for the final group game against Jamaica.
Canberra United Head Coach Heather Garriock says it’s fantastic to see Roestbakken return to the Australian set up.
“I’m absolutely delighted for Karly on her selection in the Westfield Matildas squad,” Garriock said.
“She is a fantastic role model, having come through the Canberra United pathway programs, and her development over the last 12-months has been remarkable.
“She obviously made her international debut overseas, so it’s great that she’ll have the opportunity to represent her country on home soil next month.”
The Westfield Matildas roster for the upcoming encounters with Chile features 18 players that ventured to France for the World Cup in June.
Head Coach Ante Milicic has opted to call up a strong squad as Australia continues to keep an eye on next February’s Tokyo 2020 qualifiers.
“These two games against Chile will be our only fixtures prior to February’s first phase of qualifying for Tokyo 2020,” Milicic said.
“We will be treating them with the utmost concentration and professionalism as we aim to make great use of our time together.”
The Westfield Matildas two-match series against Chile will be broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS, ABC TV, Kayo Sports and via the My Football Live App – live, fast and data free for Telstra mobile customers.
