KEELEY RICHARDS RE-SIGNS FOR CANBERRA UNITED

Popular goalkeeper Keeley Richards has re-signed for Canberra United for the 2022/2023 Liberty A-League season.

Richards joined United at the start of the 2020/2021 season making eight appearances in her inaugural season in Canberra before replicating that feat in the following campaign, a campaign that was brought short by an untimely injury.

The custodian certainly proved to be a crowd favourite at Viking Park with her athletic ability and shot-stopping capability shining through having made 59 saves across the pair of seasons in the Nation’s Capital.

“I am delighted to have re-signed for Canberra United for the new season,” Richards said of her contract renewal.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my two seasons with Canberra United. It has been a real pleasure to have been able to play in front of our amazing supporters and have touched by their incredible backing.

“The messages of support for me when I suffered my injury really helped me through my recovery and I can’t wait to get started and to be working with Chloe Lincoln again.”

Richards 2021/2022 season was brought to a premature ending when she sustained a serious knee injury against Perth Glory at Viking Park but has since bounced back to earn a new contract.

“It’s great to be able to welcome Keeley back to Canberra United for the new Liberty A-League season,” Head Coach Njegosh Popovich commented.

“She was in wonderful form last season before her injury and was an integral part of the Canberra United line-up. Her athleticism and shot-stopping prowess are of the highest order, and she will be a major part of our plans for the new season.

“We are blessed with some superb goalkeepers at United, and Keeley fits the bill for us in a number of ways. Her attitude and demeanour are top class, and I am looking forward to working with her this season.”
