LOCAL TRIO EARN SCHOLARSHIP SPOTS

Canberra United have added to their 2024/25 Ninja A-League roster with the addition of a trio of local products who have impressed during an extended trial period with the club.

Canberra Olympic National Premier League winning duo, winger Tianah Miro and goalkeeper Janet King, alongside defender Ivana Galic, who has been playing her football with O’Connor Knights in the NPL Boy’s League, have inked deals to be part of Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec’s evolution of the United playing squad.

The trio were all involved in the recent fixture which pitted the United A-League team against the NPLW All-Stars at McKellar Park and, it was their displays in that match, as well as their consistent form throughout the season and impressive trial period, which led Jagarinec to snap up the talented trio.

“I am excited to be able to welcome Tianah, Janet, and Ivana into the Canberra United program on scholarship deals, and I am certain that they will flourish in the environment and become even better footballers,” Jagarinec commented about the signings.

“They were exceptionally good when representing the NPLW All-Stars in the recent friendly match and I brought them into the squad for an extended period off the back of that game, although they had been training with us prior to get a feel of the program.

“The NPL can be a rich breeding ground for talented footballers, one that is sometimes overlooked when compiling squads at Canberra United, but the success of this trio, plus the recent addition of Jaya Bowman, proves the NPL can be a healthy place to look,”

The agile and athletic King, who possesses a booming kick, was an ever-present in goal for Olympic during their treble trophy success of 2024, playing in all 21 NPL matches as Olympic won the League title and Grand Final, as well as being between the posts in the Charity Shield win that kicked off the new campaign back in March. In total, King has played 88 times in the NPL.

Fleet-footed winger Miro was in inspired form for the majority of the 2024 NPL season, terrorising opposition defenders with her electric pace, ability to beat players in one-one-one situations, and eye for goal, netting five times in the league. Her NPL first-grade career consists of sixteen goals in 63 appearances.

Stylish, and physical defender Galic, made sixty NPLW appearances and scored three goals before moving to boys football with the Knights, and was previously a part of the wider Canberra United training squad back in 2021, under the tutelage of Vicki Linton, where she was joined by her cousin Bianca.

King, Miro and Galic, have committed to Canberra United for the 2024/25 season, and you can too! Packages for season memberships are available now on our club website at www.canberraunited.com.au.
