Canberra United will look to make a home fortress out of Viking Park, when the side kicks off their 2020/21 Westfield W-League campaign up against Adelaide United on Wednesday night.
Kendall Fletcher, Michelle Heyman and Grace Maher will lead Canberra United out onto their new home ground, named Captain and vice-captains respectively.
With Vicki Linton at the helm, the return of fan favourites Heyman and Nicki Flannery, Canberra is capable of making a huge opening statement (despite an early injury blow with Clare Hunt ruled out with a wrist injury).
While Adelaide also has a new coach this season in Adrian Stenta, consistency is on their side, with 10 players signing on for another year and only three new signings.
With that in mind, the Lady Reds will be looking to come out strong and climb some rungs on the ladder, after finishing in 8th place last season.
Over the years, there have been some memorable moments and tough battles between Canberra and Adelaide.
In the 2019/20 season, Canberra was victorious against Adelaide in both encounters, taking a 2-1 win in Round 6 thanks to a close range shot from Hayley Taylor-Young, her first in the Westfield W-League.
In Round 12, goals from Leena Khamis and Simone Charley, and returning player Laura Hughes, sealed the deal for Canberra who came away with a 3-1 victory.
While in 2015, scoring superstar Heyman bagged two goals to help claim an emphatic 4-0 win and will no doubt be on the lookout for any opportunity to do the same in her highly anticipated return.
All eyes will be on Viking Park when the match kicks off at 6:30pm.
