Canberra United will face Brisbane Roar in the Sunshine State on Sunday as they look for their first Westfield W-League points of the season.

Canberra United will travel to Brisbane this weekend for Round 3 of the Westfield W-League as they look to get their first points of the season.

Having sat through a bye in Round 1, United hosted Melbourne City at GIO Stadium last weekend. Despite taking the reigning Champions all the way, the team in green fell to a 2-1 defeat as City scored twice against the run of play.

Head Coach Rae Dower said after the match that while the result was disappointing, the chance creation and general play of United showed positive signs going forward.

“For our first game the signs are very promising,” she said.

“You know we probably created enough chances in the first half to win three or four games to be fair.”

The volume of chances created by Canberra was enough to win just about any match, but United’s forward line now know they need to do more than just create this weekend.

Undefeated Brisbane will be no easy-beats, as they kicked off their season with a strong win in Round 1 over Sydney FC, before they were held to a draw by Perth Glory in an attacking clash last weekend.

Former United goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold now plies her trade between the sticks for the Roar, and she will undoubtedly look fondly upon the chance to deny her former teammates.

Meanwhile, Emily Gielnik and Katrina Gorry will look to trouble the United defence as they have done to their opponents for the past two weeks, Gielnik even breaking the deadlock last week only to have it ruled out for offside.

Canberra will be looking for their first win of the season, and with no major changes from the Round 2 outing against Melbourne City, will undoubtedly push the Roar all the way.
