Serbian international playmaker Vesna Milivojević has re-signed for Canberra United ahead of the 2024 Liberty A-League season following a highly successful debut campaign in the famous green shirts.

Milivojević was a standout for United as the team missed out on finals football by the smallest of margins, goal difference separating the team from the National Capital from the coveted fourth placed spot.

The talented attacking midfielder ended the 2022/2023 season with eight goals from eighteen appearances, many of them spectacular efforts, but it was her all-round ability, perceptive running, vision, and eye for a defence-splitting pass, allied to that goal threat, that made Milivojevic a firm fans favourite.

“I really enjoyed my first season playing for Canberra United,” Milivojević said as she inked a new deal with the two-times Grand Final victors.

“I obviously knew about the club, and its incredible fan base and support staff, but until you come into the inner sanctum and experience it for yourself you don’t realise how amazing it actually is.

“The focus here is very much on the team. The environment is first-class, we have tremendous coaches and management, and the support really is second to none. Last season was a pleasure to be a part of even though we fell just short.

“There is a determination to make sure that does not happen again, and I am thrilled to re-sign for the club and to play my part in making sure of that.”

Milivojević started her career with Australian second-tier side Bankstown City, before signing for Western Sydney Wanderers and having spells abroad with German side Borussia Bocholt and Serbian side Spartak Subotica, helping them win the league and playing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Despite being Australian born, Milivojević qualifies for Serbia through her parents and has ten caps for her country, scoring one international goal, a strike in November 2021 in a 4-1 victory over Bulgaria in Plovdiv.
