UNITED HEAD WEST FOR GLORY

Canberra United are back in action this Saturday, travelling out west to take on Perth Glory Round 16 of the Liberty A-League Women’s.

With eight games left in the season, and 24 points up for grabs, this is a must win clash for United. Fresh off a dominant win against the league leading Melbourne City, United come into this clash with a renewed sense of optimism.

The opponents, Perth Glory, come into this clash having lost to Sydney FC. In fact, Perth have only won one of their last eight A-League Women matches (D3 L4) and have lost each of their last two.

Despite having a dominant record in this fixture over the history of the competition, recent results against the team from out west have not been kind to Canberra with one win in the last eight games played, along with two losses and five draws.

Fresh off being recalled to the Commbank Matildas squad for their upcoming Olympics games qualifiers, Michelle Heyman is in incredible form. The legendary striker has been directly involved in seven of the last eight goals for United, scoring five and providing the assist twice.

United’s young guns have been in some form, with Sasha Grove and Chloe Lincoln have been standouts at the back for Canberra United in recent weeks.

After sustaining an ankle injury in the rescheduled round four clash against Sydney FC in January, defender Emma Ilijoski is in line for a return to the matchday squad.

Goals are to be expected in this clash. In the 82 previous clashes between the two, there has been a total of 114 goals, for an average of 4.07 a game.
