UNITED HOST WANDERERS FOR PRIDE ROUND

Canberra United are back at McKellar Park for Round 19 of the Liberty A-League Women’s 2023/24 season, as the Western Sydney Wanderers make the short drive for the first part of a massive double header clash.

With six games in 21 days, United have their work cut out for them, currently sitting 10 points outside the top six, and finals football, with 18 points up for grabs.

United come into this clash off the back of defeat to Western United. Despite a forgettable start with three goals conceded in the first 14 minutes, the side had a much improved second half with a pair of stunning goals from Deven Jackson and Michelle Heyman.

Heyman has been in incredible form as of late with eight goals in her last six outings. From 22 shots on target, the striker has found the back of the net 13 times so far, currently leading the golden boot standings. It isn’t just her goals that make her a threat though. Heyman has created 20 chances this season and is equal second in the league for assists with five.

The form of Serbian International Vesna Milivojevic is one to watch as well. The midfielder is equal fourth in the golden boot with nine goals, also having three assists to her name. Not one to back down from a challenge, Milivojevic has contested 230 duels this season, 15 more than any other player in the competition.

The Wanderers come to Canberra sitting just outside the top six and having just lost to Derby Rivals Sydney FC. Attacking duo Sophie Harding and Holly Caspers have been in strong form for the red and black. Harding has nine goals and two assists, while Caspers has three goals and leads the league for assists with six.

Some good news did come out of their two-goal loss last week, with defender Vicky Bruce having a red card rescinded.

The last four matches in this fixture heavily favour United, with four wins and three draws. United have only conceded one goal across that span, coming in a 1-1 draw at Wanderers Football Park last season.
