UNITED KICK OFF 2024 WITH RESCHEDULED SKY BLUE CLASH

Canberra will start the new year, travelling to Leichhardt Oval to take on Sydney FC in Round Four. Previously scheduled for early November, this clash had been moved to January 3 to accommodate Sydney’s participation in the AFC Women’s Club Championship.

United come into this game off the back of a hard-fought draw with last season’s Grand Finalists Western United, with Michelle Heyman scoring her 98th A-Leagues goal.

Sydney sit in fifth place at the moment, also with two games in hand on the rest of the league, and are unbeaten in their last four games with two wins and two draws. A late goal from Jynaya Dos Santos got them maximum points against an in-form Wellington Phoenix in a tough encounter last weekend.

The Sky-Blues currently boast the best defence in the league, having only conceded six goals so far this campaign. Goalkeeper Jada Whyman is in strong form, having kept four clean sheets so far. Canberra do boast one of the best attacks in the league however, equal second for goals scored.

Despite the result briefly being overturned to a 3-0 Sydney win, United got the three points in a thrilling 2-1 win at McKellar Park with club legend Ellie Brush heading home the winner in the 87th minute.

Young Matildas shot-stopper Chloe Lincoln returned to the starting lineup against Western United and was in fine form, keeping out the visitors throughout the encounter.

All-time leading goal-scorer and appearances holder Michelle Heyman, is two away from a record breaking 100 goals and could very well complete the historic century tomorrow evening.
