Heather Garriock and her Canberra United squad will be gunning for their fourth straight Westfield W-League win when they welcome Brisbane Roar to McKellar Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Roar will enter this game well-rested following a bye last weekend as the Matildas played, but meet a United team getting hot on a three-game win streak, despite not being close to the peak of their powers according to Garriock.
The Head Coach said after last weekend’s match that the team is going at only 60%, but has had her first week with the entire squad this season leading into this match, with Michelle Heyman and Ellie Carpenter returning to the squad after Matildas duty.
“Michelle has come back in a very positive mindset, even if she didn’t get the playing time she expected,” Garriock said.
“Ellie as well, she brings so much energy to the team and I’m so excited to have them both back.”
Heyman will slot into a forward line already featuring Ashleigh Sykes and Norwegian gun Elise Thorsnes, who made her debut in Green last weekend and Garriock can’t wait to see the trio in action.
“I am so excited,” she said.
“That front three is exceptional and to have that calibre of players for Canberra United, everyone should be excited for this weekend.”
The Roar sit even on points with United but behind on goal difference, and whoever takes three points from this clash will be picking up a big boost over their rivals almost half-way through the season.
