UNITED SNAP UP EXCITING PROSPECT ELLEN GETT

Canberra United are pleased to announce the signing of highly-rated young forward Ellen Gett for the 2022/2023 Liberty A-League season.

Gett joins United from Brisbane Roar where she played two matches during the 2021/2022 campaign, making her debut as a substitute against Perth Glory in December 2021 before appearing against Sydney for just over half-an-hour in February.

Touted as one of the players of the future in her hometown state, and widely accepted as one of the best young prospects that Queensland has produced in several years, Gett’s capture is something of a coup for Canberra.

“We are delighted that Ellen has agreed to join us for the new Liberty A-League season” United Head Coach Njegosh Popovich commented.

“She is an exceptional talent who has come through the Queensland Academy pathway and recently Captained Queensland for the NTC challenge in Canberra at the AIS.

“Ellen is a balanced player who reads the game well, has good speed off the mark and is a solid, dynamic wide player. I have no doubt she will fit in well with the club and that our supporters will enjoy watching her play.”

Gett has been a part of the Queensland Academy of Sport and was selected for a Young Matildas training camp making the 27-player training squad for the U20 FIFA World Cup that was recently held in Costa Rica.

“I am really excited to be joining Canberra United and am looking forward to working with Njegosh, his staff, and playing in front of the terrific Canberra United supporters,” Gett said of her signing.

“I believe that I can take the next step in my career with Canberra United and am sure that this is the right club, and the right place, for me to further my development as a footballer in the Liberty A-League.

“I would like to thank Brisbane Roar for giving me the opportunity to make my A-League debut last season, but my focus is now entirely on Canberra United, working hard, and hopefully getting the chance to show what I can offer.”
