UNITED TO RING IN NEW YEAR WITH WESTERN CLASH

Canberra United are back in action this Saturday, as they close out 2023 at home to Western United in Round Ten of the 2023/24 Liberty A-League season.

After a loss to the Central Coast Mariners at home in Round Nine, Canberra will be keen to finish off the year with a much needed three points.

The visiting Western United come to McKellar Park, having won two of their last three, a loss away to Newcastle Jets the only blemish under new coach Kat Smith.

This will be only the third time that the two sides have met, with a win apiece for each. Canberra’s win came in a dominant three goal win away, with midfielder Vesna Milivojevic scoring the fastest goal in club history 30 seconds in.

Despite only having one win so far this season, Canberra are equal third in the league for goals scored with 15. Comparatively, Western have scored three less with 12 goals so far.

In nine games so far, Western have won four, drawn one, and lost four. They have found the back of the net on 12 occasions, while conceding 15. As a team, Western are fourth in the league for tackles made with 163.

Former Matilda Chloe Logarzo leads the scoring for Western with three goals so far this campaign, while former Canberra United player Grace Maher is leading the line defensively, nearing the top of the charts in terms of completed passes.

Serbian International Tyla Jay Vlajnic is another to keep an eye on, with the defender currently playing in a more advanced role having spent the last few games playing off the right wing.

Be there at Canberra’s boutique stadium home of McKellar Park, and ring in the new year in style. Gates open at 4:00pm, with merchandise available to purchase on the day.
