Canberra United Head Coach Heather Garriock was last week re-elected to the Executive Committee of Football Coaches Australia (FCA), the official Association for Australia’s qualified football coaches.
About to enter her third season as United’s Westfield W-League Head Coach and having just completed coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup with Optus, Garriock said she is looking forward to being a part of the committee again and furthering the development of football coaches in Australia.
“it’s a big role but it is enjoyable because it’s something that I am passionate about,” she said.
“It’s about creating equal standards across the board, having standard contracts for coaches and just contributing to the development of coaches.
“My role is contributing to decisions about the association, and looking to leverage the FCA brand to grow while it is still a fairly young organisation.
Garriock praised the work of Glenn Wary in setting up FCA, and the effort and hours put in to bring the organisation to where it is now.
The former Matildas defender previously shared the post with Rae Dower and Mel Andreatta as the other female representatives, but now is joined by FIFA Women’s Football Consultant Belinda Wilson and Canberran NPLW coach Sarah West.
She praised the election of West, who she said will be able to bring a different, grassroots based viewpoint to the committee.
“I was excited to find out that Sarah is a part of the committee,” Garriock said.
“Not just because she has being such a big supporter of Canberra United, but because her investment in wanting to become a better coach and give back to Women’s and Girls football in particular is exceptional.”
“It will be nice to catch up with her on our doorstep.”
West currently coaches Woden-Weston in the National Premier Leagues Women’s Capital Football competition.
