Canberra United central defender Elizabeth Anton has departed Canberra to accept a position with Kolbotn in the Norwegian Toppserien with the New Zealand international leaving the club with immediate effect.
Anton, who joined United at the commencement of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season, made her debut in green in Round 2 in her homeland of New Zealand in the 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix at Porirua Park.
The composed, elegant, defensive player went on to make nineteen appearances for the club this season, scoring the winning goal in the McKellar Park victory over Perth Glory in Round 14.
Being issued with Heritage number 152, Anton captained the team five times during her stint with the club.
“Elizabeth hit the ground running when she joined us at the start of the season and went on to cement herself as an important part of our defensive set-up throughout nineteen games for the club,” Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec commented.
“As a valued member of our playing group, Liz quickly became a firm fan favourite and a real leader within the environment, which was the reason she was made part of our captaincy group and took the armband when Michelle [Heyman] was unavailable.
“We thank Liz for her service to Canberra United and wish her the very best of luck in Norway, and in her future football endeavours.”
Canberra United continue their quest for a place in the Ninja A-League Finals series when they travel to Western Australia to take on Perth Glory this weekend.
