Canberra United are delighted to announce the signing of Houston Dash defender Madison Ayson ahead of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season.
The highly rated youngster swaps Texas for Canberra for the new campaign, off the back of an excellent season with NWSL side, having previously been an NCAA Champion in 2019 and two-time Pac-12 Champion in 2019 and 2022 with Stanford University.
Ayson was an integral part of the Stanford defence that recorded twelve clean sheets in 2022 building on a successful career that saw her take to the field forty-three times for the Cardinal Soccer Program.
“Madison is a player who I identified as being the kind of footballer who would thrive in the environment that I am building here at Canberra United,” Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec commented.
“She is a good ball-playing defender, who is decent in the air, and possesses an excellent turn of pace. Her style should complement our other defenders perfectly and clinching her signature gives us more options, and a variety of ways we can play at the back.”
Ayson was always destined to be a footballer, having been team captain at Rocklin High School from 2017-2019 leading her team to the 2018 U17 National Championships Finals, and also winning the prestigious Gothia Cup Youth Tournament in 2017, a significant achievement.
“I was surprised by Antoni calling me and asking me to come to play for Canberra but, after I got over that initial shock, I was sold on the opportunity to play for such a wonderful football club,” Ayson said of her joining the Australian Capital team.
“Canberra United has a great reputation, and Antoni really impressed me with his vision for how he wants the team to play, and how I fit into that system. I am excited by the prospect of playing overseas and meeting my new teammates.
“I am equally anticipating playing in front of what I have been told is an exceptional fan base, who get behind the team and offer great support. I can’t wait to show everyone what I can do and be a part of Canberra United.”
