Canberra United came back from a goal down for the second week in a row, defeating Western United at McKellar Park for the first time, in front of a packed McKellar Park.
Two changes were made to the squad that beat Brisbane Roar away at Perry Park, with Alex McKenzie and Ruby Nathan replaced in the squad by Tianah Miro and Jynaya Dos Santos.
A boisterous McKellar Park crowd was treated to end to end start to the clash but it would be the visitors to take the lead, with Catherine Zimmerman getting on the scoresheet.
Antoni Jagarinec was forced into an early change, as Tegan Bertolissio was forced off injured with Holly Murray coming into the match.
The response from Canberra to going down was emphatic as Michelle Heyman got her fifth goal of the season. A perfectly weighted ball from Emma Robers over the top of the defence found Heyman, with striker calmly slotting the ball home.
That wasn’t the only chance Canberra would have, with Heyman going close for a second and Bethany Gordon having her effort blocked at the last second.
Second half was all Canberra to start, with an early goal putting the side in front. Cutting in from the left, Sofia Christopherson left her marker behind before curling in an absolute stunner past the keeper.
There were chances aplenty at either end, as a storm approached the ground and threatened to delay the game.
Fortunately, the weather gods smiled on McKellar Park and full 90 minutes was completed.
The win ensured Canberra would be two from two in 2025, and put them firmly into the top six.
