Canberra United is pleased to announce the player signing of international goalkeeper and current Canberra United goalkeeping coach, Chantel Jones, for the remainder of the Westfield W-League season.
Jones joined the coaching staff ahead of the 2020/21 season, playing an active role in Canberra’s pre-season and success to this date.
The 32-year-old adds to the depth of the Canberra United playing group, alongside fellow goalkeepers Sally James and Keeley Richards.
“I’m excited to pull the gloves back on for Canberra United and help the team in any way I can,” Jones said.
“I’ve stepped into the coaching world and that’s a challenge I’m really enjoying but I am excited and willing to step up and perform well for Vicki and the team.”
Jones has a long and impressive resume in the football world, having represented the USA at the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and locally has had great success with Canberra Croatia FC in the NPLW.
She’s also no stranger to the Westfield W-League, playing with Perth Glory for the 2013/14 season, signing with Canberra United a year later, before retiring in 2016.
“I have really fond memories with Canberra United so am really looking forward to wearing the jersey again.
“My priority is to see Sally and Keeley on the park and to give them the support they need as Westfield W-league players and beyond”.
