Canberra United will take on the Chinese Women’s National team in a closed-doors friendly match in Brisbane on Thursday night.

With a bye for round seven of the Westfield W-League United were approached for the match, and Heather Garriock’s squad will travel to Queensland on Wednesday ahead of the game.

The match will be a strong test for United who drew 2-2 with the Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday, and Garriock said it is a great opportunity for her squad to take on an international side like the Chinese.

“We’re really excited for this match and the test it presents us,” Garriock said.

“It gives us the chance to play against a new team, a different style and maybe try out some combinations and ideas that we want to give a go to.”

The match will kick off at Perry Park at 5pm on Thursday evening, and with the whole squad travelling Garriock will have the opportunity to give some run to players who haven’t featured as often and keep legs turning over the bye weekend.

“The week also gives the girls the chance to have a little break with some time to themselves following the game, particularly some of the internationals who will have never seen this part of Australia.”

Canberra United players will spend Tuesday morning at the Centenary Hospital for Women & Children in Woden, handing out gifts and helping to raise spirits as part of the annual visit with the Efkarpidis Foundation.
