CommBank Matildas’ Interim Head Coach Tom Sermanni has named a 23-player squad for the two-match international series against Korea Republic in the March/April FIFA Women’s International Window which includes Canberra United’s Michelle Heyman.
Australia will face their fellow Asian Football Confederation (AFC) compatriots at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium on Friday, 4 April (8.00pm AEDT) before completing the series at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Monday, 7 April (7:30pm AEST).
Midfielder Clare Wheeler (Everton WFC) is set to make a return to the squad after being absent the last two international windows due to injury. Meanwhile young defenders Courtney Nevin (Leicester City WFC) and Jamilla Rankin (TSG Hoffenheim) have both earned recalls off the back of their recent club form.
With both nations having already secured their places in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™, Sermanni stated that these international games provide a further platform to address areas for improvement identified over the most recent fixtures.
“This squad selection is about achieving the right balance – reintegrating players returning from injury and rewarding those who have been playing consistently well in clubland. It’s important to create continuity while also bringing in players who have earned their place through strong performances,” Sermanni explained.
“We are fortunate to have a core group of players competing at the highest levels, whether it’s in the UEFA Women’s Champions League or major domestic competitions. Their ongoing exposure to high-pressure environments is invaluable as we prepare for the challenges ahead, knowing we still have plenty of details to work on heading into next year Asian Cup.
“Every match leading into the Asian Cup is an opportunity to fine-tune our approach, build cohesion, and ensure we are performing at the level required to take on Asia’s best during next year’s tournament,” Sermanni concluded.
Australia and Korea Republic in Sydney is supported proudly by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
The CommBank Matildas two-match international series against Korea Republic will be available for fans to watch live thanks to Football Australia’s broadcast partner, Paramount Australia and on the ABC Listen App.
