Hero Heyman strikes again in final game of season

On Canberra United’s final game of the 2021/22 season, Liberty A-League all time goal scorer Michelle Heyman did what Michelle Heyman does best.

At 2-0 down, it was the part of the movie where all hope looked lost; but as is the case with most box office films, the hero suited up and saved the day.   This super hero’s name: Michelle Heyman.

Brisbane Roar extended their lead early into the second half, with Ayesha Norrie taking a long range shot that snuck into the top corner, despite an out-reached dive from Chloe Lincoln.  Their two-goal buffer lasted for less than two minutes as Allira Toby put a brilliantly weighted through ball to Michelle Heyman, who never looked in doubt, slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner.  From there it was all Canberra.

Grace Maher continued to keep the Brisbane keeper on notice with a number of longer range strikes, before Margot Robinne slipped another ball through to Michelle Heyman, who once again made no mistake, placing the ball near post this time to even up the score 2-2.

The green machine just kept on coming after that, creating opportunities, and remaining solid at the back.  The third goal came from a free kick, taken by none other than Grace Maher, with a brilliant ball into our illustrious captain, who out jumped the Brisbane keeper to put us ahead 3-2.

A late sub saw Cristina Esposito make her Liberty A-League debut, however the joy of the moment was short lived, as Brisbane countered directly from the kick off and got in behind for a 1v1 with the new keeper, slotting the ball in the back of net and equalizing in the 90th minute.

The scores remained 3-3 at the final whistle, with an entertaining final game from our girls in green.
