Michelle Heyman has been awarded the Canberra United Player of the Year Award at the Club’s Annual Presentation Evening held at the Midnight Hotel in Braddon.
The ace goalscorer scooped the Award after another season of record-breaking achievements, which included her recall to the Matildas squad for the Olympic Games qualifiers against Uzbekistan, scoring five goals across two legs.
Heyman’s records included:
- Seventeen League goals, tying the Liberty A-League record.
- Those goals were the most by any Canberra United player in a season in history, beating her own record of fifteen.
- The most goal involvements in a single season (23).
- Played her 150th game for Canberra United.
- And became the first player to win three Liberty A-League Golden Boots.
Young gun Mary Stanic-Floody took home the University of Canberra Rising Star Award in her first season at the club, proving to be a consistent performer across seventeen starts. Stanic-Floody netted her first Liberty A-League goal in Round 7, a 5-1 win over Brisbane Roar, and grabbed a second in a 3-1 win over Melbourne City in Round 15.
The prestigious Ellie Brush Players’ Player of the Year Award was shared between Heyman and Nickoletta Flannery, the latter contributing five goals and seven assists from twenty-one starts, with the duo combining for nine goals in the 2023/2024 season.
The Supporters Player of the Year went to the dependable Sasha Grove, the Young Matildas international winning the Player of the Match award on five separate occasions during the year, polling consistently across the eighteen matches that she took part in.
Elsewhere, Shannon Zuccala was crowned Volunteer of the Year, the award being presented to the person who has epitomised what it means to be a volunteer on Canberra United Liberty A-League Matchday.
