Canberra United are delighted to announce the addition of Junior Matildas international attacker Lillian Skelly to the squad for the remainder of the 2023/2024 Liberty A-League season.
Skelly joins the club having earned her international honours following a series of exceptional performances in training camps, and elite matches, culminating in taking part in the friendly matches with the Korea Republic.
“We are pleased to be able to add Lillian to our squad for the rest of the current campaign,” Canberra United Head Coach Njegosh Popovich commented after snapping up the young Australian representative.
“I’ve been watching Lillian in the Junior Matildas camp, and she is an extremely exciting prospect. She plays down the left side of the field, has tremendous pace, and delivers a particularly good set-piece ball.
“I have no doubt that she will thrive in this environment. We have a noticeably young average age at Canberra United, and I am certain that Lillian can add something to our group as we push for success.”
Lillian started her career with the Crookwell Soccer Club, played at representative level with the Southern Tablelands FA as an under 12 in 2019, before moving to Southern Branch to play with the South East Phoenix in the Sydney competition. In 2023 she was selected to play in the NSW Institute Team.
“I am very excited to have been signed by Canberra United for the rest of the Liberty A-League season and can’t wait to get involved with the squad whether training or playing,” Skelly commented.
“There are amazing players at this club who I can learn off, and the team have such a great set-up and coaching staff. They play at a wonderful venue, have magnificent supporters, and give young players an opportunity.
“I am thoroughly looking forward to my time in green!”
