Canberra United have agreed a deal to sign Australia U16 international midfielder Darcey Malone from Sydney FC for the 2024/25 A-League season.
Malone makes the move south from the Harbour City having re-joined Sydney FC after initially making her maiden professional appearances in the Sky Blues 2018/19 Championship winning season.
She made her Sydney FC debut coming off the bench in a 3-0 derby victory over Western Sydney Wanderers at the age of only fifteen, before doing the same in a defeat to Melbourne City, ironically the club she would later sign for.
At club level Malone was a major part of the Macarthur Rams squad that achieved an incredible three-peat championship success in the New South Wales National Premier League.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Darcey to Canberra to become a part of our squad for the new season,” Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec confirmed. “Darcey has a lot of good attributes and will be a valuable member of our squad.
“When building my team for the new season I looked at many factors, including the ability of players to go straight into the action. For that I need players who have experienced the league, and Darcey certainly fits that requirement.”
During her time at Melbourne City, Malone made twenty-one appearances across two seasons, making an impact in each game, as the Victorian club finished second and third in the table, respectively.
