Match Preview – Canberra United v Brisbane Roar

They may have had 12 days between games but Canberra United has spent no time dwelling on the past.

Instead, they have used the past two weeks focusing on areas they need to improve and how they can overcome their next challenge in Brisbane Roar.

Canberra United’s last encounter against Brisbane Roar at Viking Park saw them come away with a 4-1 win.

Both sides are chasing their first win of the season, neither willing to go another week without collecting the three points.

A postponed round three match came as a blessing in disguise for Canberra United, allowing them time to iron out any kinks and spend more time settling into new formations.

“As a group, it’s come at a really good time, we had a longer period to work and focus on our game and really nail the goals we’ve set in place,” Karly Roestbakken said.

“It’s always hard to come off two losses, especially at the start of the season but we’ve shifted focus to the next game and done it well. We try to take the positives from any game and just focus on the next.”

The inclusion of Allira Toby is also a massive boost for the home side, the striker set to bring a new level of energy, whether that be from the bench or not is unknown.

Brisbane Roar will travel to the nation’s capital with some inside knowledge into Canberra’s camp, with their round two player of the match Jessie Rasschaert and defender Isabella Foletta both former CU players.

“Brisbane is never an easy side to play,” Karly said.

“Neither of us have started the league the way we wanted to, so I think it’s going to be a really tough game, both of us are going to come out firing.

“We don’t want to be on the bottom of the table, I think it will be a really good game but yeah a really hard one.”

The potential for Canberra United is pretty exciting, you can just feel that the best is yet to come.

They still need your support though; will Christmas will come early for Canberra United?
