Canberra United are pleased to announce that the versatile Alex McKenzie has re-signed with the club for the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season following on from her debut campaign at the club in Season 16.
The locally born product, who played for Woden Valley as a junior, before stints at Canberra United Academy and West Canberra Wanderers put pen to paper on her first A-League contract last term.
McKenzie made her United debut in the epic 4-4 draw with Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium in Round 1, before making a maiden home appearance eat McKellar Park in Round 3 as United played Perth Glory.
“Alex did very well in her first A-League season last year and I am delighted to be able to welcome her back to the club for the new campaign,” Head Coach Antoni Jagarinec commented.
“She is a strong and speedy defender who reads the game well, is confident in her distribution and carrying the ball from defence. She can also play further forward when required and, having had a season under her belt, will no doubt bring that experience to the fore in her game this year.”
McKenzie featured in seventeen matches for the club in 2023/24 and is looking forward to playing in front of the Canberra United support base once more.
“I am thrilled to be able to be back playing for Canberra United, my hometown team, once more in the new Ninja A-League and can’t wait to get started.” McKenzie said of returning to the club.
“Last season was my first experience of the A-League, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had been working throughout my football journey to get to that level, so to be able to play professionally was really a dream come true.
“I am excited to be back and grateful for the opportunity and challenge ahead. I am looking forward to home games and playing in front of our amazing Canberra supporters.”
